Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My daughter was involved in an accident in January (2016), resulting in a serious brain injury requiring emergency surgery where part of her skull was placed in her abdomen to allow room for the brain to swell and recover, we were all left confused and anxious to what the outcome was going to be. I was put in touch with this charity and one conversation with their support worker, Beth, resulted in myself feeling more in control and understanding what was going on also able to explain to others, Beth also visited our home and the school to give a power point presentation to my other children and teachers involved with Megan on a frequent basis also playing games and tasks which allowed the realisation of simple tasks being more difficult for Megan in turn an understanding. Unfortunately due to the fact they are based in Edinburgh and we are in Aberdeen visits are limited.
Megan (15) was in a coma and when awake she has been in use of a wheelchair. After 3 operations, 7 months on Megan is doing quite well and even returning to school twice a week for 3 hours. The biggest issue we have found with having a brain injury is the fact that now Megan is looking well people are less understanding of her 'invisible' longer lasting injury by making people more aware and having more support in this direction we are hoping it will make life a little easier not only for Megan but other children in a similar situation.
