Story

As many of you know I try and do a annual fundraiser in memory of my Mum who we lost on the 2nd June 2017.

The donations and fundraisers in my Mums memory are always through the Wwmd- What would Mum do? fundraising legacy in her name and has so far raised over three and a half thousand pounds for causes close to my Mums heart.

Mums ashes were spread over a mountainside over looking Llyn Padarn and Llanberis as requested by my Mum

Mum loved Snowdonia and I have many happy memories of my holidays there as a child and in recent years as an adult holidaying with my Dad when we visit each year in June to pay our respects to Mum.

Sadly this year due to the Covid-19 situation visits are not allowed to Wales or Snowdonia and a date for when I will be able to return with my Dad this year is uncertain.

I've thought a few times about what my fundraiser in Snowdonia would be in 2020 and so far the Snowdon 7in7 challenge may become a sequel, but as I can't guarantee this happens and it is now June I need to do a fundraiser now in my Mums memory.

I have thought long and hard but the lockdown restrictions limit most of my activity challenges so any long hike, walks or runs are out of the question as support and supplies from shops would not be available.

I'm not running much at the moment and all this time on the couch while I am on furlough leave isn't doing anything for my fitness or my joint health as I recently discovered after 3 weeks of almost zero runs and all day on the couch that my knee joints actually deteriorate through lack of use or bodyweight stresses or exercise on them.

The only challenge I feel I can do safely is 10k every day in June starting June 1st. Normally I wouldn't dream of back to back 10k's long term as it may well damage my 50 year old knees and is a serious repetitive strain/injury risk, but I intend on damage limitation and tactics by walking a bit of it if problems occur or rotating between walking one day and running the next, I don't know yet I just need to ensure I finish uninjured.

One thing for sure is my 10k time will be a lot nearer to where it used to be years back by the time I've finished, and if Wales opens up again in July or August then I should be in shape enough to take on the Snowdon 7in7 challenge again while in Wales for a week with my Dad.

Please support the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team with a donation if you can. They are purely unpaid volunteers and supply a vital rescue service in often dangerous terrain and dangerous weathers. I support them to give a little back to the people of Llanberis, Snowdonia and indeed Wales in memory of my Mum.
