Story

Hi,

I'm Courtney, Leo's mummy and Nathan is Leo's Daddy.

Leo is just turning 9 months old and has Plagiocephaly, Brachycephaly and Macrocephaly. Macrocephaly is a larger head than usual and Leo's is measuring over the 99th Centile. The Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly are types of flat head syndrome which can often be caused by the pressure of babies laying on the back of their head. Leo's head is flattened at the back and to the left side. This has caused his head to shift forwards causing a slightly prominent forehead and his ears to be not aligned.

Leo is a good candidate for helmet treatment which will treat the plagiocephaly and brachycephaly. This treatment is not funded by the NHS as they deem the head shape to be cosmetic. The NHS usually just advise repositioning however this hasn't worked for Leo as he already favours sleeping on the other side of his head. Leo was born during the first lockdown in 2020 and his daddy has been on furlough for Leo's whole life (mixture of part and full) as he is a swimming teacher. Just like it has for many people, the drop in his daddy's pay and me being on maternity has caused a financial strain on us so we are unable to fund the treatment alone. The longer it is left without the treatment, the harder it will be to treat.

2020, and so far the start of 2021, has had a massive impact on most of us so any donation no matter how big or small will really help us out and be massively appreciated.
