Hello all.... Due to being called into hospital the week before the ride for an operation, I will not be doing the ride. This has upset me but some things can't be put off. If you have given I will be happy to give you your money back. Thank you all for your support and donations to date. X
=============================================
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On Sunday 17 June 2012 I’m participating in the London to Brighton Bike ride for the British Heart Foundation.
The BHF are hoping to raise lots of money to help fund pioneering heart research and provide support to heart patients and their families…… so PLEASE give what you can.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So again , please dig deep and donate now.
London to Brighton History
First completed in 2011 - In total ( including four stops - 1st mechanical problem with the rear gear shifter getting tangled with the wheel , 2nd my sore backside ( "Thank you" St Johns Ambulance girls for you help and straight faces!), 3rd for food, 4th hiding behind a van on Ditchling for 30 mins due to the HORIZONTAL rain!) 6 hours 50 mins.
Getting home on the railway was fun as they totally banned bikes on trains leaving Brighton. Even when their website just said no bikes between Brighton& London (I was heading East to Ashford International). So I thought I'd be sneaky and ride to Lewes (another 10 ish miles) ...... and still they would not let me on :( In the end I phoned for help and got home about 9pm.
When I got the bike looked at I was told that putting to much strain on the rear derailleur that moves the chain when shifting gears, bent it into the wheel. (On the day I just pulled it straight and carried on !!!(losing to two lowest Gears))
Being an aluminium frame I was told that it could not be fixed properly as it would become too week and that I needed a new frame ! They was surprised it lasted to the end of the ride.
Well me being me I tried to do it myself and ..... (See Photo) .... old bike now has a missing rear derailleur hole (OK so they was right! lol) .... and this is the reason I’m rebuilding the bike .....
I got hold of an old STEEL frame from eBay and have stripped off all the paint, and slowly re-spayed. Then will come the fun part ....... taking off all the parts from the new bike and ending up with a bike for the ride this year ..........
After putting in all this effort all I now ask is that you dig deep and pledge all you can. Every pound will make a difference and every ten pounds will make saving lives that much more easy ...... how much are you loved ones worth ? J
