Story
In August a group of 9 friends and family will attempt the National Three Peaks Challenge. This involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Snowdon, the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales respectively. The challenging aspect is to complete this within 24 hours.
This involves:
- A total walking distance of 23 miles (37km)
- A total ascent of 3064 metres (10,052ft)
- A total driving distance of 462 miles
- To do this in 24 hours we will need to cut the average climbing time for each mountain by a few hours. This will not be a leisurely stroll!
We will be starting the challenge at 5pm on the 26th August at the base of Ben Nevis, finishing 5pm the next day at Snowden. This obviously means very little sleep and rest, eating on the move, dodgy toilet trips and 9 sweaty people sharing a minibus.

As much as this is a physical/mental challenge we all want to complete, we also want to raise some money for a charity close to home.
As some of you may know, I (Lee) lost my mum 8 years ago suddenly to sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS). This is a cardiac arrest where the reason is unknown. This can happen to anyone at any time and is sadly becoming ever more common. Most of the group taking part knew my mum well and would like to raise what we can in her memory.
The charity SADS UK provide, amongst other things, live saving defibrillators to communities, the money we hope to raise will pay for at least one of these. Please have a look at their website to see what they do: https://www.sadsuk.org.uk/about-us.html
Thank you for reading and for visiting this page. I know times are hard so please, if you can, give whatever you can afford.
