With my dads permission...
In June 2017 my dad was diagnosed with Myeloma. Myeloma is a cancer arising from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow. Myeloma affects multiple places in the body where bone marrow is normally active in an adult, ie within the bones of the spine, skull, pelvis, the rib cage, long bones of the arms and legs and the areas around the shoulders and hips. It is a relapsing-remitting cancer, this means there is currently no cure.
Within the last year my dad has bravely undergone 6 month of chemo, a procedure cementing the several fractures in his spine caused by the Myeloma, further chemo and a stem cell transplant! He has faced each step with positivity and the only thing to waver has been his appetite (even biscuits!) 😱 As a family we are so proud of both him and my mam and how they are standing up to cancer...so I’m going to try and do my bit by dragging my fat ass 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields to raise some sponds to work towards finding new drugs and supporting families going through this rollercoaster. Please spare what you can and if you want to be at the finish line with some pizza and prosecco it would be much appreciated 😂xxx
