Story
I am hoping to complete my first marathon (I don't think the one with wine stops counts) in August on what will certainly not be enough training (an upset stomach means training has been somewhat put on hold for the last couple of weeks, when I was really planning on starting with a vengeance...). I imagine the whole experience will be rather painful but it will feel so much better if I know some money has gone to a good cause as a result!
Riding for the Disabled Association is a UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of thousands of people with disabilities through therapy and fun. RDA Abingdon dispenses a unique therapy to over 130 children and adults, whose ages range from 2 to 70. All enjoy the experience of riding, driving or vaulting with opportunities to join in social activities, competitions or go on national holidays all of which combine to bring a new dimension to restricted lives, encourage independence, give confidence and generally improve the well being of each individual.
This is all made possible thanks to over 120 volunteers, who regularly give up their time and energy to ensure that the Group provides 1586 rides, drives and vaulting sessions each year. From personal experience, I can also safely say this charity provides a wonderful experience for the volunteers (my mum doesn't even like horses and it's her favourite time of the week!). They rely heavily on donations to provide this service so every little helps!
