Story
You know me well. You know I spend my life urging other
people to throw themselves out of planes and push through the pain barrier for charity.
You know I’m lazy. And I’m adverse to my adrenalin rushing anywhere.
You probably know that I can’t drive or ride a bike. This means I’ve never been able to propel myself faster than my own legs.
You also know that I love my job. And if you’ve ever been
trapped in a pub conversation with me, you’ll know why I do.
Getting to know so many people with learning disabilities over the past two years has been life altering. We work together. We laugh together. We really, really dance together.
But life isn’t always fun. I see people I care about facing injustice every day simply because they have a disability. I don’t think that's fair. And I want to do something about it.
So I will try to walk 26 miles in less than nine hours, raising funds so that people with learning disabilities can better ‘live the life we want to, getting good support from kind and friendly people’.
The last time I tried this I only made it to mile 23. And, as Stu helpfully points out, I was ‘5 years younger’.
This time it’s personal.
I’ll keep you posted. If you keep me funded.
No. The llama isn’t coming with me.
