Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This adventure was completed and next year I intend to go some 800 miles from the West of West Scotland to the East of East Anglia. I will take in as many EOD linked sites as I can, so watch out Faslane (Navy EOD), Catterick (Army EOD), Primetake Lincoln (EOD Ammo manufacturer), Nottingham (Army EOD), Wittering (ex 5131 RAF EOD Sqn), Carver Barracks Wisbeech (33 EOD RE) and Colchester (again (Army & Para EOD/Search).
An iconic picture above.....depicted as 'the long walk' from the 70's where sadly 23 bomb disposal specialists lost their life trying to disable improvised explosive devices.
I am undertaking this charity cycle ride from Lands End to John O Groats to meet up with lost friends, drink tea and eat cake, whilst raising money and awareness of the Felix Fund.
The Felix Fund is a charity who provide support, welfare assistance and financial support for anyone past or present assisting with bomb disposal duties.
This is across all Services, cap badges, Regiments & MoD Departments and includes the Metropolitan Police Counter Terror Unit SO15.
Fortunately, bomb disposal losses are not as high as the sad troubles of the 70s. However, it leaves both physical trauma and mental scars with some and I am proud to have been involved within this line of work which takes many forms.
It involves numerous unseen skilled and dedicated Military, Civilian & Police personnel, the valuable support of Industry to supply specialist tools & equipment and foremost a loving supportive family.
It is a uniquely team effort to put that bomb disposal officer down the road...., so for all involved, the immense bravery shown by them and the continued love of their families, they are frontline, to be commended, and deserving of our continued support.
