The Woodlands Family YMCA was so much a part of his personality. When I say my Dad loved the Y, that is an understatement. Every morning since I can remember, his bag was packed for his morning workout and then also often later in the afternoon for his afternoon swim or second workout. He was a weightlifter in college and never stopped. He loved to sling around heavy weights and then remind you how old he was. Or he'd come home and tell you how far he swam or what else he was able to accomplish. And what he could accomplish was pretty amazing. He was an athlete. As he got older, he didn't let up. In fact, I think getting older motivated him. Working out made him feel centered.
He also loved to socialize. He'd ask my sister or me, "You want to go work out?" When we'd get to the Y, we wouldn't so much work out as he would take us around to all his friends and introduce us. The last time we went together was about a month ago. He hadn't been to Shadowbend in a little while and had to make sure to explain to folks why. Then he started introducing me to people he knew. One family meeting another. I am so grateful that my Dad found the Y and so grateful for the times he took me there with him.
