Story
It all started as I was scrolling down my Facebook news feed when I came across an advert for The Great Wall of China Marathon. I'd recently had a very successful half marathon race at Wolverhampton and then the Brigdnorth 10k finishing First Lady! So was quite pumped about my running and wanted to do some more races, with Brighton Full marathon booked up for the second time for 17th of April (my birthday) I wanted another full marathon to tackle. I'd got the bug!
I clicked on the link and had a browse through the page. I thought to myself, What an amazing marathon that would be to say you've done, Shame I can't afford to get to China! I decided to tag my dad in the event as a joke and said fancy paying for me to go and do this haha!
Few days went by and then Dad came and spoke to me saying it had made him think and he'd talked to Mum about China as they have wanted to go. They'd recently been on an organised tour holiday to India and loved it so the thought of a tour holiday around China was looking quite appealing. Alex had also said to me some time ago he'd love to visit China one day, Which I told Dad.
So from there we started looking into it and the companies involved in the tours and the marathon. Before we knew it Dad was inviting the family to come along! Unfortunately the older sister and husband aren't coming along, as its going to be one of those holiday experiences spent with family that will mean so much to us all!! Time with family is precious. I'm going to share this challenge with them!
There is full marathon, a half and 8.5k fun run so I'm not the only family member that's going to run!
However I am the only crazy one doing the full 26 miles!!
Dad is taking on the half marathon and even Alex said he'd do the half!! Haha good luck with that Alex!
And Mum is doing the 8.5k fun run!
Coral and My uncle Pete and auntie Karen are going to be the cheer squad on the day and enjoy the holiday of a lifetime in China with us!
We can't just go all the way to China and run one of the hardest marathons in the world without using it to help make a difference!!
We all decided that we'd like to raise money for Cancer research as we've all been affected by it in many different ways. For me being around Ian my boss and the heartbreak he suffered watching his wife deteriorate to cancer is an eye opener as to how violent and nasty this disease is! It scares me that 1 in 3 people will get cancer!
life is so short! I'm so fortunate to be going on this wonderful trip with loved ones and tackling The Great Wall.
A Special thanks to my Dad who without I would not be able to have this wonderful holiday and marathon challenge!!
So to all our friends and family please sponsor us for the Great Wall Marathon and let's stand Upto Cancer
Lots of love Lauren
Alex, David and Tanya
