Story
We have signed up to Half Tough Mudder a mud-coated 5 mile and 13 obstacle course. Let others gain from our pain.
We have chosen to raise money for The Mental Health Foundation and support a charity that is dedicated to encouraging mental well-being.
The Mental Health Foundation seeks to prevent, identify or improve mental health through creating and sharing knowledge that empowers people to understand the steps that they can take to reduce their risks, increase their resilience to mental health problems, and increase their positive mental health.
Whilst a lot of work has been done to reduce the stigmas attached to mental health, there is still a long way to go to really encourage people to gain a better understanding of how to prevent mental illness or seek help.
One of the biggest issues with identifying mental illness is that it is not a 'physical' illness, which means it can go under the radar for a very a long time. Mental illness can also lead to addiction, self-harm or other 'physical' illnesses. This makes preventing escalation of poor mental health so important, or at the very least providing those at risk tools to help them take the steps in the right direction.
As with all illnesses, the pain and angst of someone suffering in silence can impact their work and personal life, as well as affecting their family and friends. Removing the stigma attached to admitting pain or vulnerability is crucial to encouraging people to seek help.
Seeing someone you love suffer is difficult and feeling/being unable to help them is even harder.
Thank you all in advance for supporting us through our new muddy experience and for supporting a cause close to our hearts.
Hopefully, one of many Tough Mudders!
