What will I be doing?

At the start of September this year, I will be going on a charity gap year with BMS World Mission on the Action Teams programme. This will involve training for a month in the UK from a range of topics from public speaking to team building, teaching English to going on a church placement and lots more. 

Following where I will venture with my team of 4 to Gulu, Uganda to take part in a range of projects for 6 months. The projects will be focused on legal and development work, including the water and agricultural development. I'll will visit a remand home (juvenile detention centre) up to three days per week to do activities such as teaching, bible studies, drama and other activities. I'll will not do this alone but will be with a local person. We will also help plan and start a youth outreach for a church plant near the Gulu university and help set up and start an English speaking Sunday school for the English service at Gulu Baptist Church. Also, possibly help with children's programmes run by the Local Baptist Association.  I will be based with a family who are BMS mission personnel while in Uganda.

Then after my 6 months in Uganda I will be going on a 3 month tour of the UK, visiting schools and churches (including Lincoln!!!) which I will be with my team telling people about our mission abroad. 

I will be keeping a blog on the BMS website throughout the year to keep people up to date with what I've been doing. This will be available here from September:  

Who are BMS?

BMS World Mission are an organisation which organise a programme called BMS Action Teams which is a Christian Gap Year programme for 18 - 23 year old to serve God around the world. 

How am I going to fund raise? 

I will be doing lots of different fundraising events. 

Including The Rat Race Weekend at Burghley which i completed. This was a big challenge which consists of 20 miles and overcoming 200 obstacles. Its the biggest obstacle course in the UK. For this event I raised £130.

How much do I need to raise?

This money donated will count towards the £5,000 that I have to raise as a contribution towards the total cost of the programme. I know it sounds a lot but this includes food and accommodation whilst in the UK and overseas, flights, visa, airport tax, medical clearance and insurance. It sounds like a lot, but I assure you, the rewards are going to overwhelming!  

Please note that anyone who is a "connected person" to me may not be able to gift aid their donation, these include:

- Relatives and their Husbands/wife's/civil partners

- a company under control of connected persons

If you are feeling very generous and would like to give a more significant amount of money (more than £50) please consider sending it directly to BMS by cheque with a note explaining that it is for my Action Team. This is to save commissioning charges from JustGiving.
