Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page and for taking the time to read my story.

In 2016 I ran my first ever Great North Run to celebrate 10 years in remission from Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I loved the run and the atmosphere of the day so much I have done it every year since, this year will be my 4th. (I never thought I'd ever hear myself saying that!) Running helps keep me sane and helps me process the continuous fear of cancer that is always niggling at me. What better way to challenge my fears and do something good to help others, by raising funds to help in the fight against blood cancer. I run to fundraise for Bloodwise. Bloodwise is a UK based charity dedicated to funding research into all blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, as well as offering information and support to blood cancer patients. Bloodwise's vision is to beat blood cancer.

I am honoured to run as part of #teamemma.  A team of amazing people who run to remember a best friend's granddaughter who lost her battle with Leaukemia at only age 8. Emma endured years of treatment and also a bone marrow transplant from her brother to get into remission. It was devestating when she later relapsed. I never met Emma, but her 'keep going' attitude fuels every step, especially when that finish line seems so far away. Emma touched the lives of so many and continues to impact the world and make a difference. She certainly inspires me to run in order to fundraise, while my knees and legs still allow it anyway!

Another inspiration for me starting to run is our beautiful friend Michelle. Anyone who knows this lovely lady knows how amazing and strong she is, and that is a FINE FACT! Michelle was diagnosed with Leaukemia and had to undergo months of chemo as well as a stem cell transplant, spending months in hospital and also time away from her young family while in isolation. Thankfully treatment was successful and Michelle continues to be in remission thanks to her amazing donor. Michelle is an avid Great North Runner too (unbeknown to her running her last GNR with Leaukemia!) and I can't wait to one day do the run alongside her, high fiving all the kids and supporters along the way.

This year I'm also running for my special golfy Soo who is currently fighting her cancer diagnosis and another friend Annmarie who was diagnosed with the same cancer as me earlier in the year. Both of these women are amazingly strong and completely inspirational in the way they stand and fight even though some days, I'm sure, all they want to do is run. One of my 13.1 miles will be dedicated each to these brave ladies.

My two beautiful girls are also running the junior run this year too.  Ava who is 10 will be running her 4th and Thea will be running her 1st at 3 years old. It's rather special that we are all #teamemma together💖 It's fair to say Great North Run and Junior Great North Run, the Bells are coming to get you🏃🏻👍😁

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page. I know times are tough at the minute and a lot of people are fundraising so I really appreciate it if anyone is able to sponsor me again this year. Even if you can just spare £1 it will be received with many thanks and believe me, all of those little donations soon add together to help make the biggest difference. If you can't sponsor, a message of support will go a long way and will be just as greatly received. Many thanks to you all in advance, without the help and support of you lovely kind people, this would not be possible. Beating blood cancer together👍😊
