I have worked in Schools for over 12 years and the mental health of young people has never felt like a bigger priority. So many young people are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression amongst other issues, and the amount of support available is nowhere near enough to tackle the problem.
In 2022, one of the students in my year group at school died by suicide. Callum's death highlighted how extreme the issues are in school, and how the mental health of young people needs to be given as much time and support as possible.
Myself and the rest of Callum's year group, as well as the whole school feel very passionately about raising money and awareness for childrens mental health and therefore I have take on this challenge to help us do this.
Callum would be in year 11 now and should be taking his GCSE's in the summer of 2024. As a year group we would like to keep his memory and the importance of mental health at the forefront throughout the year.
One in six children and young people now have a diagnosable mental health issue. That’s five children in every classroom with a condition like depression or anxiety.
Place2Be is the UK's leading school-based mental health charity, providing support to children, families and school-based staff when they need it most.
Please help me support Place2Be’s vital work, and together we can make a real difference to children's mental health and ensure that children don’t have to face mental health problems alone.
