Hi Family and Friends,
I hope this email finds everyone well (and with power!).
This Sunday I am going to be doing a 20k trek to Table Mountain to raise funds for GVI's sports initiatives at ACJ Primary School in the Nomzamo Township outside Gordon's Bay in Cape Town.
GVI currently sends volunteers to ACJ to run numeracy and literacy programs with kids who are falling behind, as well as after school projects to keep kids busy after school and off the streets. In addition, volunteers also run PE classes during the school day and provides kids with sports equipment to use during their free periods. Unfortunately, there is limited storage space at the school so the nearly 2000 kids that attend the school have to share a handful of soccer and rugby balls during their free period.
The money raised by this challenge will go towards purchasing more sports equipment for the school as well as somewhere secure to store it. We have been lucky enough to receive generous donations of sports equipment in the past and these things need to be safely stored at the school. A secure container for storage will cost around R25,000, which is approximately $3000 and £2000, and we also hope to raise enough money to get extra sports resources for the children at ACJ.
