Story
Last night, instead of starting my weekend with a large glass of wine, I kicked it off with a 45 minute 'Fartlek' run (had to Google what one of those was!) followed by a few pints of water.....anyone who knows me knows I'm not the sportiest type, so a marathon is a SERIOUSLY big deal for me!
Two months ago today I started working with the British Red Cross.
Having worked in the sector for nearly a decade, I feel like I know what I'm talking about to some degree....in this respect, I can wholeheartedly say that what the British Red Cross does is seriously amazing, and I am incredibly proud to be a part of it.
(If you want to know more about what the British Red Cross does around the world, ask me!)
Three months today I'm going to be attempting to run the 2016 Athens Marathon, which runs from the town of Marathon (as in where the concept of marathons started!) to the Panathenaic Stadium, which hosted the first ever Olympics. I figured if I was going to do a marathon, I may as well make it an iconic one!
It was only after I entered that a friend casually informed me that precisely half of the marathon course (i.e. 21km) is uphill - the toughest uphill climb of any major marathon....
I guess it's a case of 'go big or go home'!
I would be grateful for any pennies you could spare :)
