Laura's 100k Challenge

100k Challenge · 31 August 2020
This time last year I volunteered with Animal Aid Unlimited in Udaipur, India and fell in love with all the animals and the incredible work the charity does to help them. Like most animal charities, they rely on volunteers to help with the rehabilitation and socialisation of the animals in their care and with COVID travel restrictions the number of volunteers visiting has dropped so I wanted to do something to help them from home.
After recently completing Couch to 5k during lockdown I thought now would be the perfect time to set myself a challenge to ensure I keep on running as it's an amazing way to keep fit - and help animals at the same time! So throughout the month of August I will be running 100k using Strava to record and share all individual runs.
Animal Aid is based in Rajasthan, India and they run a vital emergency rescue service for street animals such as dogs, cows, donkeys, birds and cats. Their rescue team respond to up to 50 calls every day, rescuing animals with fractures, spinal injuries, wounds, skin problems and other diseases. Rescued animals are brought back to their shelter where they are treated by their medical team and care-givers. They perform emergency surgeries as well as spay/neuter with up to 150 animals in the shelter on any given day. They also carry out training and education programs to teach people about how they can help any injured or abused animal they see.
It costs between £15-18 to rescue one animal so hopefully we can make a difference!
