We enable the creation of marine reserves to reverse the crisis in our oceans

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Together with Winch Design, I have decided to take part in the London to Monaco cycle challenge 18 – 27 September 2016 in support of the charity Blue Marine.

Personally cycling 460km (300 miles) over 3 days through the Rhone Alps, this will be the biggest physical challenge I have ever undertaken.

If you would like to support the charity and equally important the inevitable sore bum and chafed thighs by sponsoring a few pounds, it would mean everything however large or small.

It will be a great ride and achievement for everyone involved so thank you for any support!
Laura

A little bit about the charity:

Spanning 3 countries, the Winch team will be covering 1400km over 10 days in support of BLUE’s aim to put 10% of the world’s oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030.

The Blue Marine Foundation is working to solve the crisis of overfishing by creating marine reserves –parts of the ocean that are protected so that fish and biodiversity can recover.

Funds raised from this event will go towards two projects that will contribute significantly to ocean protection:
- Relieve the Aeolian Islands in Sicily from overfishing and irresponsible tourism by surrounding them with a network of marine protected areas.
- Create alternative income sources in the south Atlantic to end overfishing and guarantee full protection to sharks, turtles and rare sea birds around the Ascension Island.
