On a recent trip to Morocco with friends and after a couple of glasses of wine a conversation of various sporting challenges that each of us would like to achieve resulted in Sam, Mark, Stuart and myself deciding to do the Three Peaks Challenge in August.
It's a tough and physically demanding challenge but it will be a great achievement to be able to say that I've completed the challenge.
As it's a pretty big challenge we thought it would be appropriate to raise some money for some worthy causes in the process so each of us has chosen a charity we wish to support.
I've chosen to support St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth, I've chosen them because they looked after my step dad Mike who fought an incredibly courageous battle with pancreatic cancer for 17 months in 2010 and 2011. When he could no longer fight the amazing staff at St Luke's looked after and cared for Mike during the last few weeks of his life. The staff were brilliant, they made sure Mike was comfortable, that he had everything he needed and were brilliant with all of the rest of us too (he had a lot of visitors during his stay!). The staff were really supportive to the point that Mum was able to help with some of Mike's care which she really appreciated.
Mike may only have been in St Luke's for a short time but now it's my time to give something back to St Luke's and raise some money for the charity to say thank you for everything they did for our family in our time of need.
This is a very worthy cause, the staff and volunteers at St Luke's really do the most amazing work but it is a charity and relies on fundraising efforts to maintain the fantastic service they provide, so dig deep please people! And please please support me to do this crazy (Sam this is all your fault!) challenge!
For those who don't know, the Three Peaks Challenge is climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours including the travel time between each of peaks. This means we'll be climbing one of the peaks in the dark, will be awake for over 24 hours and we'll probably have a nice collection of blisters between us by the end of the challenge! Photos to follow! :-)
Thank you for your support,
Laura xx
