Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many people are aware on Wednesday 13th May 2015 my brother, Simon and father, Peter were involved in a powerboat accident in the Solent. Sadly Simon was knocked unconscious and my dad had to swim back into the upturned boat to rescue Simon. As a result of Simon's accumulation of injuries we were told that he had a 0% prognosis and his only chance of survival was for him to go on a system called "ECMO".
ECMO stands for Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation, and although it is not a cure it was going to give Simons lungs the chance to recover and bide his body some time to repair. ECMO can take up to 6.5 litres of blood out of the body per minute and it removes the carbon dioxide from the blood and oxygenates it before putting the blood back into the body. ECMO can be used for multiple problems that patients may have ranging from pneumonia to collapsed lungs.
Thankfully the ECMO treatment was a success and after 5 days Simons consultants took the decision to take him off of the system. Unfortunately not all patients or families are as lucky as we were and this is why I feel it is so important to raise money for the ECMO at St Thomas Hospital so that they are able to continue their phenomenal work and help other families like ours.
Please donate as much or as little as you wish, all donations are greatly appreciated and will make a difference.
