My name is Laura Cartmill I am 31 years old I have a visual impairment I was born with an eye condition called ‘Aniridia’ which means I have no iris in either eye this is the coloured part of your eye I have a enlarged pupil this makes my eyes very sensitive to any lights and cloudy days
I also have autism. Having this condition affects a lot of things . Meeting new people, communicating and socialising can be difficult for me,, at times I struggle with being in a big crowd and loud noise. The severity of my conditions differs from day to day but there is always a way around it,
10 years ago I joined a football team for people with varied disabilities. Since joining a team, my confidence has been built tremendously . Before joining football, I didn’t talk to anybody; now, I have more confidence, and I even helped with my football coach to coach the team (we were branded the ‘Dream Team’) this season 2021 I have been coaching with the Tavistock specials league 2 team in the Devon ability counts league it’s a great opportunity for people with all different disabilities to play football against different teams have fun and enjoy themselves and a fantastic way to socialise with others
I have been involved in disability football for 10 years I play now for Tavistock specials ladies we take part in the Devon ability counts league against other teams with all different disabilities i play with a brighter ball so it is easier fo me to see the Tavistock specials have been really supportive they always sort out a bright ball for the tournaments this season 2021 I am helping out with the Tavistock specials league 2 team in the Devon ability counts league
In 2022 I am playing with Tavistock specials ladies and coaching them in the Devon ability counts league it is for everyone with all different disabilities and I also help out in another fun football session on a Wednesday evening helping people with all different disabilities I have been involved in disability football for 10 years absolutely love it
