Story
“Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.” William Barclay.
My name is Lara, and I suffer from Ehlers--Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue condition that affects nearly every part of my body, as well as causing most of joints to dislocate on a daily basis, EDS also affects my organs, mainly my heart and my autonomic nervous system. Unfortunately EDS is very unheard of. It is misdiagnosed and misunderstood all the time and it is my aim to try and get as many people as possible understanding and learning about what EDS is.
So, it is because of this that for the next six months of my life I am going to have a film crew filming my journey for a documentary that will hopefully be screened in 2011 to get our message out there. Your support is crucial to this project, I have no idea how I am going to get to that finishing line, but I will. When I started training I could walk about 2.5m before my symptoms kicked in, I have until April 17th to be able to walk 26.2m. I take alpha and beta blockers everyday to enable me to even stand up, I am having my right leg completely re-aligned, involving major surgery in August, so the hurdles before me are multiple and mammoth. Whatever you can sponsor me will go towards helping us find research for a much needed cure and giving us the chance to reach out to more sufferers to prevent misdiagnosis and misunderstanding once and for all. Please help me make our invisible, visible.
