Story

**ENGLISH**

If you know me, you will probably know my cousin, Uxue. She has been an integral part of my life, bringing joy and love with her through every interaction. Our journey together has been both challenging and inspiring, and it is her resilience that motivates me to make a difference. Our bond is strong, and I want to share a bit of our story with you.

When I was just 9 years old, Uxue came into the world, a cute and joyful baby. There was however a big turning point in her life that arrived when she caught chickenpox; this lead to a rare form of epilepsy and autism. It was tough to see her suffer over 200 seizures every single day. Our whole family felt the weight of it.

We tried to give her a ‘normal’ life by taking her on vacations and doing fun activities together, but due to her condition we always ended up back in the hospital. It was heartbreaking, but Uxue's spirit was unbreakable.

She taught us what resilience truly means. Her courage and strength inspired me deeply, and I felt a strong desire to make a difference in her life and the lives of others facing similar challenges.

Thankfully, around fourteen years ago, things started to change. Uxue got this incredible device that acted like a battery which calmed the excessive electrical activity in her brain and gave her some relief from the relentless seizures. Now, at 19 years old, she has defied all odds and exceeded her life expectancy, gaining a remarkable level of independence.

Seeing her journey from those tough times to where she is now fills my heart with pride and gratitude. It's what drives me to run the London Marathon on April 21st (42km 🫣) and raise awareness and funds for a charity that supports individuals facing similar challenges.

This marathon is not just about celebrating Uxue's triumph; it's about making sure others get the support they need to live fulfilling lives too. Together, we can empower more individuals like my cousin and help them break free from the burdens they face.

I know it's a big ask, but your contribution can make a real difference. Let's join hands and show our support for those who need it the most.

Life is harder when you’re disabled. You're twice as likely to be unemployed, getting care is a struggle and the cost of living is higher. It’s wrong, so I'm fundraising for Scope to create a fairer society.

I'm absolutely thrilled to do this for my cousin, who's been such an inspiration throughout most of my life. I promise to share a photo afterward, and I'm sure tears will mix with the sweat in what will be a truly heartfelt moment.😊

Thanks for being a part of this journey with me. :)

Lara x

**CASTELLANO**

Mil gracias  😊
