On 22nd May there was a strike in the local community.
LIV Village (a home for vulnerable and orphaned children) was at the centre of the protests.
The front gates to the village were broken down by rioters but miraculously not a single person entered the village or walked through the gates. Tires were burnt, the farm shed was also burned down as well as the agricultural area and the factory being broken into and looted. The welding school was set on fire too and lots of things stolen, as well as windows being smashed. The community clinic, run by LIV, was entered and the insides were destroyed.
It is estimated that up to R1.5 million worth of damage has been done.
We, as the gap year programme, are asking that people give whatever they can to LIV so that damages can be paid for and LIV can bounce back fully from this.
“For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
