Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit LEJOG 2022 Keech JustGiving page.

Goodbye Fifties!!  (a note from Guy Barker)

In a moment of madness the thought of setting a significant personal challenge to mark the departure of my fifties flashed across my mind; Lands End to John O'Groats sounded like a suitable challenge 1042 miles, 55348 feet of climbing .

I cycle with a bunch of friends at the weekend; we're a very social bunch, moderately competent on our bikes, reasonably fit, but perhaps more interested in the après bike! The idea was put out to the group and I expected two "yes I'll come" responses........NINE have accepted this challenge and the ride has taken on a new dynamic; and more importantly has given us the opportunity to raise some much needed funds for our chosen charity Keech Hospice www.keech.org.uk.

LEGOG 2022 Keech was created.

Why Keech? Keech Hospice is local to us as riders, and offers palliative care to both adults and children; additionally they offer highly trained medical, and social support in the wider community where children, adults, and their families need assistance and respite. As a group we know first-hand what this support means to a young family within our community. Hannah and Rhys Ford have the most beautiful daughter, Ophelia who was born with an extremely rare neurological condition known as Canavan Disease; in the simplest of terms this condition means that signals from her brain aren't delivered to any part of her body; she is profoundly disabled. From Rhys's past support of Keech through his business activities, Keech became aware of Ophelia's condition and needs and have offered an incredible level of support to the Ford family, which has come about without them asking, their interaction with Keech as a young growing family will inevitably increase with the passage of time.

To support Keech the physical challenge will require our creaking joints to propel us over 1042miles from Lands End to John O'Groats; the journey is planned to take 12 days starting on Friday 20th May. We will all achieve this. To deliver £30000) or more to Keech Hospice will arguably be the biggest challenge; we will get there in no small way by the very generous financial support of businesses to whom we are associated; with the support and sponsorship of family and friends; and with the support of people we don't know, who, despite all the demands on their finances will resonate with this cause and help us achieve our collective goal of raising a minimum of £30000 (increased from £20k 😀) Keech Hospice need to find additional funding in the multiple millions of pounds every year to continue their amazing work; your support of LEJOG 2022 Keech is very much appreciated by all connected with this challenge.

Thank you,  Guy Barker, Chris Denton, Julian Smith, Marcus Osborn, Alister Fuller, Adrian Wadsworth, Dave Wilson, Adrian Glew, Dave Marsh, and not forgetting our star support drivers Jon and Jo Williets, Mike Gill, Mick Syme and Kev Turnbull.
