Hi, my name is Lucy and I’m fourteen years old. My mum, Sarah Wood, got diagnosed with LAM when I was very young. This June, I am going to do a fundraiser for LAM Action where I collect the letters from London Underground roundels to spell out lymphangioleiomyomatosis. I have to collect the 24 letters from 10 different tube stations which will take about six hours to complete. I have done a fundraiser on the tube for LAM Action before where I planned a route which featured every underground line with three of my friends, this time I’m working alone with some help from my family and other people from the LAM Action Committee.

I am doing this fundraiser as part of my bronze Duke of Edinburgh volunteering award which I have been working on since March. The award helps young people to find new skills, challenge themselves and develop team working skills on expeditions. I’m glad that I’ve got this opportunity to raise money for LAM Action as well as work towards my Duke of Edinburgh award.

The first station I will visit is Kensington (Olympia) which will allow me to collect the first 4 letters I need, then onwards to another 9 stations, finishing up at Highbury and Islington which will give me the last 2 letters I need to complete my ‘24 Letter Underground Challenge’ in aid of LAM Action.
