Story
I actually did it - all 42.6 km of it! Such a fantastic feeling to cross that finishing line (after a mere 4 hours, 5 minutes and 8 seconds) but the highlight had to be split between running across Tower Bridge and seeing Matt & Batesy at the 22 mile mark. Finally, someone amongst the crowd that was rooting for me!!! Unfortunately I didn't manage to catch sight of my niece and nephews but they assure me they saw me three times along the way!
Thank you so much to all of you who have supported me along the way - by attending the Strictly Gorgeous dinner in November, and by sponsoring me. It means a lot to Matt and me, and a whole lot more to Brain Tumour UK.
Woohoo, just completed the Silverstone half marathon in 1 hour 40 mins and 17 seconds on a cold and windy day!!! How about that!!! I'm just a little bit chuffed with the effort and the medal's not coming off until I get the medal for completing the full marathon! Many thanks to all those who've donated - please keep the donations coming - they all help make a difference.
Talk about hardcore - running around Oxfordshire in the snow... I had a fantastic few weeks back in New Zealand, running on the beach and up and down hills, however it was a bit of a shock to the system coming back to the UK. However, I'm slowly building up my miles and have signed up for the Silverstone half in preparation. I'm doing my bit - so please continue reading and hopefully you'll be even more motivated to donate generously.
I decided to enter the London Marathon primarily to prove to Matt that he wasn't the only special one - I too could accomplish the near impossible and complete a marathon!
As most of you know, Matt was diagnosed with a brain tumour over 10 years ago. In 1998 the doctors gave him 14 months live. Defying all odds, he's still here and amazingly is working full time as a teacher! That's something to live up to.
I'm also running the marathon in honour of my grandad who died of a brain tumour. As a teenager I used to run with him over the hills in Havelock North, New Zealand.
With these two remarkable people, both affected by brain tumours, I'm hoping to raise as much as I can for Brain Tumour UK so they can help the increasing number of people who are affected by brain tumours.
