We provide support to children & families to improve their experience of CHD

Story

In 2010 I was over the moon to discover I was pregnant. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 14 weeks. I then fell pregnant again and was blessed with twins!

As you can imagine I was immensly worried during pregnancy about anything and everything that could go wrong, however it never even crossed my mind that there would be anything wrong once they were born.

6 weeks before the boys were due to be born a routine scan turned into an emergency cesarean section.  So tiny and not ready yet, they were transferred to Neo-Natal...

On the 22nd December 2011 I was discharged, but i was going home without my babies. They still needed to be in hospital. We were told Harry had CHD Hyperplastic left heart syndrome.  We had two options. Three open heart surgeries before he was 5 years old or palliative care?  How do you resign yourself to the fact that one of your babies may never come home?

Harry was a fighter though and over the years Harry became stronger. He overcome every challenge.

No one prepares you for CHD, how can they? Keep The Beat supported us through every unimaginable step.

As the years went on drinking had become a crutch.

Bad day?  Have a glass of wine.

Good day?  Have a glass of wine.

Stressful day?  Have a glass of wine.

Non-stressful day?  Have a glass of wine.

I have massively struggled with my mental health. Everything that had happened over the past 10 years had finally caught up with me and alcohol....my go to was quickly becoming my way of dealing with this, what I thought I needed to get through.  My way of trying to process and deal with all the years of ups and downs.

That’s when I realised I needed to focus my energy and do something positive!

This is where my fund-raising comes into it. I am challenging myself in the best way possible and  going alcohol free for ONE YEAR.

This is my opportunity to give something back to the charity that got me through the hardest time in my life!  so if you can donate, please do.
