Ok, so, I'm running the marathon in memory of my twin sister Jenna, who thankfully blessed us with her awesomeness for 25 years. However, even though she was certainly very special, she didn't have any special needs or a disability (not before she got ill anyway). So you might be confused about why I'm running the marathon to raise money for WhizzKidz...because even though I wanted to run in memory of Jen, I wanted to run for a non-cancer based charity as it sometime gets a bit overwhelming and gloomy when everything is all about cancer, so I thought carefully about other charities that do amazing things and WhizzKidz stood out.
If you know me then you'll already know that I'm all about making sure that children with disabilities or special needs are treated the same as everyone else (including setting detentions if they forget their homework!). This is exactly what WhizzKidz is all about - giving young people the tools and skills they need to thrive and participate in the community they live in. Every single penny you donate will go towards vital projects, such as helping that young person get the wheelchair they need so that they can travel around independently without their carer - when's the last time you were happy with your mum tagging along and cramping your style?!?
I would really appreciate and be incredibly grateful for any donations to this amazing cause...as well as supporters with packs of jelly babies and lucozade orange drinks to keep me going on the day (26th April).
Thanks for your support,
Kirsty.
