We mobilise communities and churches to help end extreme poverty and injustice

Story

We did it!!! The professional photos are being uploaded online over the next couple of days so once we've found our photos we'll add them here to prove that we actually completed the race!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On 1st September we are going to be taking part in the Spartan Race, which is a 5K route with obstacles along the way. Obstacles may be a bit of an understatement... watch the video for an idea of what we are going to be putting ourselves through!

You may well wonder why we would do this? We both love a good challenge (which this certainly will be!) and we are also doing this to raise money for Tearfund's work responding to disasters all around the world.

When disaster strikes, local churches are often at the heart of the response: their buildings used as emergency shelters or feeding centres, their people reaching out with generosity to friends and neighbours who’ve lost everything.

That’s why Tearfund invests in local churches, helping them prepare for disaster. They know which communities are most vulnerable to flooding, to earthquakes, to droughts. And they know there are simple, tried-and-tested methods that can save lives in those communities – such as educating people about the early-warning signs of disasters, making sure they know where to go and what to do.

Tearfund makes sure they don’t just tackle the fallout of disasters. They work on the bigger picture as well. That’s why as well as responding when disaster strikes, they also help churches hold governments to account; to agree policies and fund activities that reduce the impact of disasters and save lives.

Right now Tearfund's Disaster Management Teams (DMT) are working in Haiti, South Sudan, Darfur, Afghanistan and Democratic Republic of Congo. Their work is vital in helping countries to prepare for disasters and recover when they happen.

Any donation would really encourage us as we prepare for this challenge. We'll be updating this page so you can see how our training is going, and (providing we survive) we'll add some pictures from the race as well. Those bright yellow Tearfund t-shirts which we will be wearing will not stay clean for long...

Thanks again for your support!
