I’m running the Manchester Marathon for Kidney Research UK. This is a charity very close to my heart, as my sister developed kidney disease and had a kidney transplant ten years ago this year. It was such a shock seeing my sister become unwell, and we are so grateful for the generosity of her donor who gave the gift of a new organ. 

However, this is not the end of the story. Transplants are a treatment for kidney disease, not a cure. Treatments for kidney disease are gruelling and cause long term side effects. Kidney Research UK funds crucial research into safer, more effective treatments to help people like my sister.
