The Breastfeeding Network is 20 years old this year and has a proud history of offering independent, evidence-based information and support to help build awareness of breastfeeding to individuals and organisations and to support a mum in her choice to breastfeed.
I'm really proud to be a trustee for BfN. One of the things that makes BfN special is that it will never accept money from companies that have a commercial interest in infant feeding. With a more challenging financial environment in health and public sector services, charitable donations are more important than ever.
As well as delivering projects throughout the country, including in my own area of Lancashire, BfN runs (with ABM) the National Breastfeeding Helpline. It also runs the invaluable Drugs in Breastmilk helpline, which provides support and information to thousands of families and health professionals every year. Our highly experienced and trained pharmacist offers breastfeeding support alongside evidence based information and factsheets to anyone who is concerned about the effects of medication or treatments while breastfeeding. This helpline receives no external funding.
