Story
At the start of 2020 my health started to decline and in October that year I was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition, Pulmonary Veno Occlusive Disease….a form of Pulmonary Hypertension.
I initially started on tablets, which unfortunately didn’t help and then progressed to having a Hickman line with IV meds plus oxygen 24/7.
In March 2021 I was assessed for transplant and luckily I was suitable however was told I needed it ASAP. I was added to National Urgent List on the 19th May and just under 6 weeks later received “the call” that was about to change my life.
On the 29th June I had my life saving double lung transplant at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle. My surgeon said he gave me “lovely lungs” and he was right about that! They have been absolutely amazing! Just being able to put trainers on again and go for a walk, or even a short run, is the best feeling in the world!
This run will not only raise funds for the amazing Freeman Hospital and raise awareness about organ donation, but it will be in memory of my Donor, who ultimately has made this all possible for me and who gave me my life back….she is always in my thoughts.
I feel extremely fortunate and grateful every single day as not everyone gets that call…I know I’m one of the really lucky ones.
