Story
Monday 15th August 2011. Swanage is over and I was fortunate again with the weather. Tremendous family support cheering me on to finish in 2h 56min 14sec. Couldn't believe I broke the 3-hour target in Swanage. The hills were punishing but the course must be shorter to take this into account. Fantastic views of Corfe Castle, Poole Harbour and Swanage Bay along the way. Will hopefully be back next year!
Thanks again very sincerely to everyone who sponsored me. The page will stay open for 6 weeks. Who knows, I might make the fundraising target yet. Keep the donations coming please.
We couldn't have asked for a better day in Bournemouth on Sunday 3rd July 2011 and the 3-hour barrier was broken! Martin and I were in the water at around 7:20am, the sea was calm and the sky was blue. The cycle went well with a light breeze but the run was hard work - we both thought it felt like the last couple of miles of a marathon. Nevertheless we pushed on and my official time was just under 2h53min so I was really pleased. Martin was nearly 4min faster but I put that down to his longer legs (or shorter shorts)! The training must continue now for the bigger challenge of the Swanage Classic with its infamous hills. Thank you for your generous donations. I promise you I'm earning every penny!
Take advantage of this fantastic offer - 2 Triathlons for the price of 1 donation to a great cause!
I have taken leave of my senses this year and signed up for the Bournemouth International Triathlon on Sunday 3rd July 2011 with my good friend Martin and the Swanage Classic on Sunday 14th August. However, all I am asking of you is one donation.
I am raising funds for the Makondo Health and Community Outreach Centre in Uganda. My aunt, Sr. Rita Hand, has worked in Uganda as a medical missionary for many years. Sr. Rita is a trained nurse and provides medical care for children who have been orphaned by HIV-AIDS. She also works with the Women's Development Group in Makondo on income generation schemes including bee-keeping and the making and selling of fuel-efficient clay cooking stoves called 'jikos'.

Visit the website above if you would like to learn more about Sr. Rita's work. Medical Missionaries of Mary is a charity registered in the UK and Ireland. They have promised to send all of the money I raise directly to Makondo so you can be sure your donation will go to where it is needed.
I participated in my first triathlon last year in Bournemouth (in the nick of time before turning 40) and completed the event in 3 hours and 3 minutes. My target this year is to break the 3 hour barrier in both triathlons for the 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. I'll keep you updated with my progress.
