Story
Thank you for taking time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for the Forget Me Not Club based in Banchory.
The Forget-Me-Not Club was set up in 1999 and is run by a small group of professionals and volunteers who work together to provide support, assistance and care to people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of Dementia. In addition, this support is extended to immediate carers.
Currently, the Forget Me Not Club provides care throughout Deeside via numerous locations such as the Banchory Scout Hut and the Disc. They have recently purchased Bennett House in Banchory which will provide a single location from where the necessary care and support can be provided. Plans are in place for extensive alterations to be made to the building to ensure it suits the needs of the group. These alterations will require £200,000 of funding and a number of initiatives will be needed to reach this target.
My Grandad suffers from Dementia and it is a condition that has got progressively worse over the last few years. Up until recently, he visited ForgetMeNot on a weekly basis and this provided him the opportunity to socialise with other visitors and also participate in his beloved game of dominoes. Despite his health currently dictating that he now cannot attend these sessions, we will always appreciate the high level of care provided by the team and the enjoyment my Grandad got out of these visits.
I recently visited a ForgetMeNot session and was grateful for the opportunity to meet all of the attendee’s and carers. During my visit, I could see first-hand the importance of these sessions to all attending, with people socialising over bowls, cards, dominoes and pool in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
I am hopeful that by running this marathon in aid of the ForgetMeNot club we can help raise the profile of the Group and perhaps encourage other fund raising events in aid of this excellent cause.
