Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. Over 11,000 men die every year in the UK and the number increases every year. The Mission of PCRC is to develop new therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer. The immediate goal is to increase survival and their vision is a cure for the disease. Every pound raised will help PCRC achieve their vision.
I was due to run my first ever London Marathon on Sunday April 26th 2020 for Prostate Cancer Research Centre and my aim is to raise £2750.00 for this worthwhile charity. It is now going ahead on Sunday October 3.
A lot has happened to me personally and the world globally since I first started this journey. Due to a rare lung disease I now have reduced lung capacity so doing the marathon is a much bigger personal challenge.
I am running specifically for PCRC in memory of my father, who died as a result of Prostate Cancer developing into his spine and other bones, over 6 years ago, just before his 80th birthday. My aim is to raise money to help anyone avoid the same debilitating and painful end to their life that my father suffered.
As far as running for a charity is concerned, it had to be something that meant a great deal to me. PCRC totally ticks that box. Running the London Marathon for him will be one of the proudest moments of my life. I will just need to keep my emotions in check.
In addition to the London Marathon I completed the Vitality Big Half Marathon (also in London) on Sunday August 22 2021 also on behalf of Prostate Cancer Research.
Due to my condition I know I can’t run this the way I wanted to, but to participate and complete this race in whatever way I do will be the greatest achievement of my life.
Please donate as little or as much as you can to support this charity, and to also motivate me over the winter months on those long and lonely training runs. I realise just how tough training to run a marathon will be, and how much it will take over my life. I really appreciate everyone's support and I hope to see as many of your faces as possible on London Marathon day.
