Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2017 I took on the Thames Path Challenge. I had to stop at 87km due to injury but thanks to all you amazing stars I raised £760!

So this year I want to help the Princess Alice Hospice again, this time I will be walking it but not alone! I will have my wonderful Fiance Nick with me.

We are doing this for the Princess Alice Hospice as they are an amazing local charity to us. They do not just care for people when they are not well but offer so much more. If you have never been inside the Hospice I can say it does not feel like one. You walk in and met with a friendly smile from all members of staff and volunteers . The Hospice is warm, friendly and feels like a safe place. The garden that wraps around it like caring arms gives those in their care and those visiting a place of quiet, and a peaceful area for a chance for even a moment to escape. The inside in no way feels like a hospital as such but more like a community, there to offer support to not only those staying with them but families and friends visiting too. I remember visiting my uncle and feeling at ease and not overwhelmed by all that was going on. It takes a special place and people to make somewhere feel like a home from home.

Chris Spurdel, there are not many people from his home town that don't know Chris. He lived and worked in Esher most of his life. He was always smiling and always happy to help, be it a tool, lift, advice or even a friendly ear. I would say if Chris didn't have it to borrow or help with then there wasn't much hope lol. Some of my best childhood memories where at his home in Esher, his array of pets from the furry to the feathered and the trinkets that he always seemed to have around his home, each with their own story. He was always helping charities and animals in need if he could. I remember the last time I saw Chris at the Hospice, we walked in and he still had a smile for us , he spoke about the gadgets in his room and the food on how nice it was. It is always hard to loose a loved one or friend but with a place such as the Princess Alice they treat those in their care with love, respect and dignity and when they pass they don't just simply shut the door, the door is always open and offer support throughout and after too no matter how much time has passed. Chris was an amazing, caring and lovely man who lived life and will never be forgotten.

So if you can spare even a few pence to help us meet our combined target this year and raise vital funds for an outstanding charity, then we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
