Story
On April the 23rd I’m going to be running my first ever Marathon, London Marathon!
I will be fund raising for Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading, as this charity and hospice is very close to my heart. They do some amazing work and not many people realise how important hospices are until they have had a loved one who has been cared for in a hospice.
Back in July 2022 someone who I was very close to and love very much, passed away at the Duchess of Kent hospice. Steve was cared for at the hospice for 9 weeks before he passed away, he was only 37 years old and had been fighting cancer for 18 months. The hospice were amazing in every way and they allowed my family to be family to Steve and not his carers. Even though it was the worst time of our lives, the staff made it that little bit more bearable and we were able to laugh and make so many more memories with Steve, in them final weeks.
Without the hospice, Steve would have never been able to get outside in the garden which he loved to do every day right up until the very last few days, we were able to stay at the hospice with Steve right up until the very end.
So please help me raise as much as possible for this amazing hospice, so they will be able to carry one giving the best care at the hardest time in peoples lives.
At Sue Ryder, we believe that the end of someone’s life is the most important time of their life. We know that those days can be filled with fear, uncertainty, pain, struggle. Or they can be filled with love – the people and things that mean the most to us, the conversations that help make sense of it all, the final moments that bring peace and resolution. The support to help grief fade and let acceptance take its place.
Your support makes all the difference. Every pound and penny you give allows Sue Ryder’s specialist team to provide the expert care that will make more space for love in the end of people’s lives.
