Onesie Wednesday was created to encourage people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to show their support for anyone on the autistic spectrum. By wearing a onesie or your pyjamas you’re saying – "it’s alright to be different". Which is just what we believe.
As many of you are aware I have two sons, Stanley, aged 6 and Archie, aged 3. They are both on the Autistic Spectrum. I remember feeling completely lost when they were both diagnosed with ASD. I didn't have a clue what Autism even was! That's when I came across The National Autistic society website There was so much information and support available! It really was a lifeline And still helps us on our families journey.
What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways. Some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support. People with autism may also experience over- or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours.
This year I have decided to fund raise for The National Autistic Society to give something back for all the support we have received for our amazing boys. I'm not a runner or a daredevil but I don't mind embarrassing myself in front of lots of people! So I have decided to take part in Onesie Wednesday along with my fellow school Mums Melanie Part and Lynnie Stap! On the 2nd April we are going to wear our onesies/ PJ's for the whole day. We will be doing the school and pre-school runs in them, shopping, and anything else that is our daily routine - the message is 'it's alright to be different!" I will be posting photos on my Facebook page throughout the day!
I know times are hard but if everyone could find the time in their day to donate just £1 on my Just Giving page I would be so grateful and I know NAS would be too!
Thanking you in advance for your support and maybe you could even wear your onesie with pride on the 2nd if April too.......??!!
