Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Yes! I am taking part in a sponsored run on the 2nd October 2011 at 11am in Victoria Park AND I will be completely shaving all of the hair off my head (maybe my eyebrows too..) before the run, on Friday 26th August.
Its not usual for me to do a 'sponsored' anything or to ask anyone for money (if you know me well, you will know this is oh so true) but the monster that is cancer has crept into the life of a child with whom I am very close to in my family. She does not want to be identified so I shall call her 'P'. Since discovering that P has cancer (and a rare one at that), I seem to see and hear of someone being effected by it with alarming frequency. I guess it is so easy to think "It'll never happen to anyone I know or love" but this has been my wake up call.
P is so young and innocent and although she is strong of body and mind, the disease has already had such a large impact on her life. She is undergoing intensive chemotherapy which, if you were unaware, kills cells that divide rapidly. Rapid division is one of the main characters of cancer cells BUT is also that of cells in the bone marrow, digestive tract and hair follicles thus causing a decreased production of blood cells leading to a suppressed immune system, inflammation of the digestive tract and alopecia.
Charities such as Macmillan Cancer Care are helping to support my family in their time of need and it is now that I see the true value of such agencies.
Ok Ok, I am waffling a bit! To sum it up my little P is fighting this disease and I'd like to show my support for her fight by asking you to help me support her supporters.
Thank You for your anticipated donations. As Tesco says 'Every Little Helps'!
Much Love,
Kerrie
Oh, If you can send this onto your friends and family I would greatly appreciate it! x
UPDATE: I have added a date and time for both the run and the hair show down, I have been back in training for 4 days now and it is all going well. P seems to be brighter than before and everything seems to be looking up. Thanks again for your continued support. x
UPDATE: The hair has gone, both P and I have nice heads under our mops of hair (phew!) and we like the short look. Training is proving to be difficult with the onset of autumn but I am going to persevere. Once or twice a week on a bad week is better than nothing! x
UPDATE: I completed the run in 30 mins, it was hard because it was a ridiculously hot day for October. Never again! Thanks for all of your support! x
