Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The church and local community in Bracknell have raised over £500,000 in the last 5 years to help people affected by HIV/Aids in the Serenje district of Zambia. We have seen incredible transformation in the district; 3214 orphans and vulnerable children have been supported through their education with school fees and materials; 1700 households have been given seed to enable food security and over 700 goats have been given out.
On a trip to Serenje, we met some girls who are receiving funding for their education from the project. The school is too far for them to walk everyday so they stay in the nearby slum overnight. They are living in terrible conditions and are subject to serious physical, emotional and sexual violence. They are showing such tenacity in their struggle to get a secondary education - we knew we had to do something to help.
Having been given a piece of land, we set about calculating the cost of building a dormitory for 100 girls to live in so that they can attend school without fear of violence. Kerith Community Church and the local community have together raised £125,000 towards the cost of the dormitory. We need an additional £100,000 to cover the cost of the building and fitting out the dormitory. It will be an exciting day when these girls can attend school knowing that they will be able to sleep in safety and comfort that night. Please give whatever you can towards achieving this target, your donation will make a huge difference.
