Story
5 Years Later and 5 Years Older
Some of you will recall that 5 years ago, along with a great bunch of colleagues from Sky I walked the West Highland Way! 96 miles, 5 days and 4 toe nails later I promised never ever to do it again, as it turns out until now! I must have enjoyed it more than I thought and this May I’ll be packing the compede plasters and midge repellent and setting off on another adventure with an equally brave, slightly older and very much dafter bunch to tackle the west coast and the inevitable cloud of midges!
This time, like last time I will be raising money for a very worthy cause and I’d really appreciate your support to raise money for Calum’s Cabin (www.calumscabin.com). For those of you unfamiliar with Calum’s Cabin it is the inspirational legacy of a brave young lad called Calum who lived on the Isle of Bute just off the west coast of Scotland who at the age of 11 had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Instead of letting this terrible illness get him down, Calum and his family had decided that they would like to keep helping others by building a Holiday Cabin in Calum's name, a place that would provide peaceful sanctuary and happy memories for other families who have a child dealing with cancer, giving them the chance to experience Calum's island and have a wonderful holiday on the Isle of Bute. 13 months after being diagnosed, Calum passed away at home but his memory lives on through the holidays and memories that Calum's Cabin and now Calum’s Cottage provides for others. You see the success of Calum’s Cabin and the great work that Caroline (Calum’s mum) and Jenna (Calum’s sister) have done has allowed them to expand and double the amount of families that they help each year, but it’s also tinged with sadness that there is such demand from families seeking the peace and sanctuary that a holiday on the west coast can bring.
On 27th May I’ll set off, joined by Craig McPhee who for some reason best known to only him has signed up to do this again, along with 12 other mad trekkers who will be tackling midges, blisters and lost toe nails. All going well we’ll cross the finish in Fort William on the 31st May.
Please help me raise as much money as possible and provide happy memories for as many families as possible.
Thanks
