Story
I'm marking the 50th anniversary of my Dad's death with a wee walk on the South Downs. Now, I've no idea how far I'll walk, but I'll be trying to walk continuously for 12h. I'm hoping that in those 12h I might cover in the region of 36-40miles...or so! With the current COVID restrictions, I'll be starting and finishing at home, so I won't be asking anyone to make a non-essential journey to collect me. It'll just be me enjoying my one form of exercise for the day!
I've chosen Bowel Cancer UK as the charity I'd like to support because for many years that's what I thought my Dad had died from. As a 9yr old at the time, I didn't really know. Turns out, that wasn't actually the case, but the cause of his death was bowel-related. However, his brother, my Uncle Tom, did die from BC. So it seems an appropriate charity to benefit in Dad's memory. I would be thrilled if you would consider sponsoring me - any amount that you can spare will be so appreciated. You could even opt for a cash per mile option - maybe guess my final mileage!
During the 12h of my walk, 60 people in the UK will be diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. It is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, and the second biggest cancer killer. Early diagnosis is critical to good outcomes.
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. They’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. It might be that you're just not in a position to donate any funds at this time - that's absolutely fine. But either way, perhaps just head over to the Bowel Cancer UK website and check out the symptoms - just to be sure.
