Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our just giving page.
Mary Parsons (Our Aunty) was 1st diagnosed with Breast Cancer aged 59 following a routine mammogram. She had no symptoms, no lump. She had some lymph nodes remove to find the extent of the cancer but found that it had spread to the lymph nodes which meant that she needed a mastectomy. After the chemotherapy Mary had regular check up's and was given hormone tablets to control the growth of the tumour, but in February 2015, she started to feel unwell again, and the tumor had grown. She spent many weeks after that in hospital, where she was given 3 months to live, she was discharged from hospital, but in May 2015 she took a turn for the worse and was taken back into hospital, where she passed away on 4th June 2015
We have chosen Cancer Research UK as we believe in what they are trying to achieve. In the 1970's less than a quarter of people with cancer survived, today around half of people diagnosed with cancer will survive, and we want to help push that further with research so within 20 years three quarters of people diagnosed with all cancers survive.
Our target of 5k covers the cost of a clinical trail to improve surgery of brain tumours for a month. This will help doctors remove as much of the tumour as possible, whilst leaving healthy tissue undamaged.
Cancer effects 1:2 people and over the years our family has been touched by this horrible disease, from our Nan (Louisa Toye), Aunty Sue (Susan Salter), friend (Kieron Jackson), cousin (Kay Parsons), and of course most recently our Aunty Mary (Mary Parsons), not to mention David Bowie, Alan Rickman and Sir Terry Wogan, all taken from us far too early!
We WILL complete various challenges over the coming months and host a black tie charity event in Swindon, Village Hotel, Saturday 2nd April to reach our targets.
Bath 1/2 Marathon - Sunday 13th March - 21km (13 Miles)
Brighton Marathon - Sunday 17th April - 42km (26 miles)
London Marathon - Sunday 24th April - 42km - (26 miles
Run to the stones - Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July - 100km (62 miles)
We have committed to running 127 miles over these 5 events, which is the equivalent of running from Bristol - Plymouth and we have only ever ran 10km in distance before this.
