Story
Thank you for taking the time to come to my page.
For those who don't know, I've been working within Pulmonary Rehabilitation for the last few years, and every day I see the benefits of empowering change, management through self-motivation and a chance to regain control in patients affected by a lung condition. Those I treat have lost independence, confidence and unsure about the futures they face.
It is not just 'other people' that are affected by this. One in five people in the UK will be diagnosed with a lung condition in their life time and we have a lack of acknowledgement about the dangers that can contribute - indoor pollution, occupational exposures and lifestyle risk factors with under diagnosis common as people account it to the natural ageing process. With someone dying from a lung disease every 5 minutes, this is not something that can be ignored until old age creeps up on us.
The British Lung Foundation aim to prevent, treat and cure lung disease, but this cannot be done overnight. The necessity for research, delivering optimal management and support those affected is crucial. They need money to do this and a platform to promote the work they do.
So for every day I deliberately get my patients out of breath, help them control it and encourage them to do a few seconds more; this is payback for them. A marathon is hard. But it's a charity I truly believe in and I'm willing to put in the mileage to get the monies it needs.
