Story
I have some exciting news: Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation is celebrating its 40th anniversary! It is hard to believe that I have been part of this amazing organization for over 12 years now but that is nothing compared to the fact that this year is Maine Adaptive’s 40th year here at Sunday River. Wow!!!! It is thanks to the generosity of Sunday River, volunteers, participants and all the family and friends who support this organization that this incredible milestone has been achieved.
For 40 years, Maine Adaptive has been providing free programming for anyone requiring adaptive equipment and/or techniques. While originally an alpine ski program only, we now offer year round programming for many different sports including, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, tennis, golf, hiking, road biking, mountain biking and my own personal favorite: pickleball. It is a recognized leader among adaptive sports and recreation organizations. I am proud to be a volunteer as well as a current board member. It is pure joy to see the happy and satisfied looks on the faces of the participants, the family members and all the volunteers and staff who help to make it happen.
I am taking part in the 40th Anniversary Winter Challenge. Fundraising is essential in helping to continue being able to provide free lessons including adaptive equipment and trained volunteer instructors. Please help me keep this fantastic organization going by supporting me in this challenge.
