Story
I'm cycling this LEJOG route of 1200 miles over 24 days at an average of 50 miles/day. The total ascent will be 21.2km - approx 2.5 times the height of Everest....gulp!! Although I'll cycle without back up support (therefore cramming everything into my pannier bags) I'm delighted that for some stages I'll be joined by family and friends & greatly look forward to their company and encouragement. I plan to start from Land's End on 3rd Sept and complete the journey on 26th - no doubt with sore legs and other parts!
I hope that you will join me in this challenge by helping to raise funds for The Trussell Trust. They support a vast network of food banks across the country and so provide practical help at the most basic level for those who are hungry. But more than that, they actively work on the bigger picture - treating not just the symptoms - hunger - but also the disease. They campaign and influence for an end to poverty. I find this inspiring - and a fight worth pedalling for! In their words "Our vision is for a UK without the need for food banks. We say this because it’s not right that anyone cannot afford their own food. That’s why we are working towards a just, compassionate future, where no one should have to use a food bank to get by. Our vision is ambitious, but we know that if we work together it is possible. We can create a future where nobody goes hungry, because nobody will allow it – when we work Together for Change.#TogetherForChange"
Over 2 million food parcels were delivered through the Trust's network of food banks over the last year. And now, in 2022, with accelerating energy costs, high inflation and major economic problems the crisis is getting worse. Demands on food banks have never been higher and they are growing. As I look forward to seeing the amazing beauty of this country on my cycle adventure I am all too conscious that I will be journeying through communities where many individuals and families simply can't afford their next meal. Thank you so much for joining me in helping to rectify this.
As for the appeal target, I'm all for simplicity! I figure that if we could raise £2/mile this would equate to a £2,400 target - which also neatly equates to £100/day. So how about it?
See you along the journey with updates! Thank you again for your support.
