Story

Keith’s Story
In December 2019, after 15 years of fighting Prostate Cancer, I was diagnosed in 2004, I was finally given the all clear in 2019.
During my treatment I  met some wonderful people, consultants, oncologist, special nurses, hospital ward staff, my GP and staff at my local surgery and pharmacy who do a fantastic job in helping people like me, through the trials of coping with the treatments that are attached to cancer. These treatments would not be available and I would probably not now be here, without the ground breaking research carried out by Cancer Research UK.
With this in mind I decided, after having Radiotherapy and hormone treatment in 2004 and when the cancer came back aggressively in 2009 leading to me undergoing a successful trial program of Cryosurgery, which undoubtedly saved my life, to try to give something back. First, I entered the Cancer Research UK 10K  which was held in Southport in October 2010, I managed to raise over £500 in sponsorship.

Further, with the help of original Ormskirk Young Peoples Club (YPC) members and local support, I have raised a great deal of money for Cancer Research UK through the  'Rockin’ at The YPC'  (Young Peoples Club)  The Teenagers of the 1960s re-union shows.   It was the success of the first Rockin’ at The YPC and the money raised, plus my guest appearance on the Stand Up To Cancer Telethon; that encouraged the thought that it would be a great idea to make Rockin’ at The YPC an ongoing fundraiser for Cancer Research UK. I decided to set up a Just Giving page specially for Rockin’ at the YPC (9), and that the 5th Anniversary show, was again be a fundraiser for; Cancer Research UK.

Moving on from Rockin' at The YPC, in 2018, with the help of my local Cancer Research UK representative, I formed the Merseyside Cancer Research UK Committee to set a new initiative 'Gig4Life', 'Musicians Using The Beat To Beat Cancer', a series of fully 'Live'  musical presentations. which will be held at various venues in the U.K.

To date we have raised £1000's of pounds towards drawing attention to early diagnosis, treatments and the life changing effects that this terrible decease brings to the people suffering from the various Cancer's, their family's and those who care for them.

For further information, please follow our Facebook page at; https://www.facebook.com/Gig4LifeCRUK ~ plus your local press/media for 'Gig4Life' details.

 * During the halcyon days of the 1960’s most teenagers in the Ormskirk (Lancashire) locality would have been members of Ormskirk Young Peoples Club, affectionately known as; “The YPC”. Since 2010 and in aid of Cancer Research UK, re-unions for members have been held twice yearly, these events will continue under the guise of 'Rockin' at The Civic' at The Civic Hall Southport Road Ormskirk.

'Gig4Life'  ''Musicians Using The Beat To Beat Cancer' theme events will be coming to a venue near you, follow this page or our Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/Gig4LifeCRUK for details.
