Story
On the 12th March I will be embarking on an epic journey as I take part in the "Clipper Round the World Yacht Race".
I applied to an invitation from the Sea Cadets (MSSC) and was selected from over 120 applications down to 33 for an Interview in London. I than made the next selection and was part of the 14 chosen to take part in the 3 week training.
In order to successfully and safely complete this crossing I had to undertaken a tough and intensive training program with ‘Clipper’ which has helped me to prepare for what’s ahead; such as sleep deprivation, physical endurance and operating in cold wet environments for extended periods of time.
Team work is an important part of what we teach within the Sea Cadet Corp and this race is a good example how virtually no task on the yacht is possible without it.
I am now part of 12 successfull Sea Cadet volenteers that will join one of the 12 Yachts as we prepare to race against each other across the Pacific Ocean.
I will be part of the "Derry-Londonderry-Doire" Team yacht that departs from Qingdao in China on our 5,800 mile journey to San Francisco.
The Pacific Ocean is one of the toughest and most challenging Ocean crossing in the world with some of the most extreme weather and sea conditions imaginable.
This is a once in a life time opportunity for me and I am looking forward to the challenge.
I am raising money for the Sea Cadets and would be grateful for any contribution you can make.
